Washington, D.C., May 29, 2025 — In a significant development in the fight against healthcare fraud, a Missouri man has pleaded guilty to orchestrating a scheme that defrauded Medicare of millions of dollars through unnecessary genetic testing.According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Jamie P. McNamara, 49, of Kansas City, operated several laboratories in Louisiana and Texas.

He obtained doctors’ orders for genetic testing from telemarketers and call centers that used aggressive campaigns to persuade Medicare beneficiaries to agree to receive tests. These orders were signed by purported telemedicine doctors who neither consulted with the beneficiaries nor followed up after the testing.McNamara paid illegal kickbacks and bribes, disguised through sham contracts, to obtain these orders.

The fraudulent claims were primarily for cancer and cardiovascular genetic testing. This scheme resulted in millions of dollars in unlawful billing to Medicare. The case underscores the ongoing challenges in protecting federal healthcare programs from fraudulent activities and the importance of vigilance in detecting and prosecuting such schemes.
