American singer and actor Justin Timberlake has shocked his followers by publicly revealing that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, a bacterial infection transmitted by certain tick bites. The announcement came through an emotional post on his social media, where the artist explained that this condition was the cause of the health issues he faced during his most recent global tour, the "Forget Tomorrow World Tour," which concluded on July 30 in Istanbul after more than 120 international performances.
Timberlake shared that during several legs of the tour, he suffered intense nerve pain, extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, recurring fevers, and an overall feeling of exhaustion. "There were days I couldn’t stand for more than an hour," he wrote, adding that he didn’t want to interrupt the tour out of respect for his fans, even though it meant performing in very delicate conditions.
The artist also revealed that during multiple concerts, he suffered from respiratory infections, bronchitis, laryngitis, and severe back inflammation, further compounding the physical toll of Lyme disease. Throughout the tour, many fans expressed disappointment on social media, commenting that Timberlake appeared unmotivated, did not sing live in full, or barely moved on stage. These criticisms, which circulated widely, now carry a different meaning after the diagnosis was revealed.
Timberlake explained that he tried to stay strong for every show, but the toll was enormous, and ultimately decided to speak out as a way to raise awareness about a disease often underestimated. The public's response was swift. Thousands of followers expressed their support and solidarity, and the post received messages of encouragement from fellow artists and loved ones. His wife, actress Jessica Biel, shared a photo with Timberlake and their son, surrounded by red heart emojis.
Meanwhile, his former NSYNC bandmate Chris Kirkpatrick called him "a true warrior," praising his courage to perform while knowing his health was compromised. Lyme disease, caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, is common in parts of the U.S., Europe, and Asia and is typically spread by infected tick bites. If not treated early, it can lead to neurological, joint, and cardiac complications.
Timberlake confirmed that he is currently undergoing treatment and that his priority is to focus on recovery, rest, and being with his family. So far, it is unclear whether the singer will postpone future artistic commitments, but his press team has stated that all upcoming decisions will depend on his medical progress. In the meantime, the news has sparked a wave of solidarity and admiration for an artist who, beyond the stage, has shown humanity, strength, and honesty in facing a difficult personal challenge.
