Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas has announced his resignation. The prominent Baltic politician faced corruption allegations and received an ultimatum from his coalition partner.

Paluckas informed Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda of his decision to step down during a phone call, Nauseda told reporters on Thursday. Paluckas is under investigation for alleged financial misconduct related to his businesses.

The center-left coalition partner For Lithuania had previously demanded Paluckas’ resignation by August 18 and threatened to leave the coalition. “If Paluckas stays, we won’t remain in the coalition,” said party leader Saulius Skvernelis.

Electric Battery Deal Sparks Controversy The opposition accuses Paluckas of selling electric batteries to his sister-in-law’s company, allegedly funded by a government agency. Last week, the sister-in-law’s company denied accusations of nepotism, stating that the deal resulted from a public bidding process.
