U.S. President Donald Trump landed in Scotland on Friday, July 25, for a four-day visit combining personal business, golf, and meetings with European leaders. This marks his first visit to the United Kingdom since taking office for a second term, and he is expected to stay at his golf resorts in Turnberry and Menie Estate, where he will officially inaugurate a new 18-hole seaside course in Aberdeenshire.

According to Trump, he will meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss a potential trade agreement between the United States and the European Union.

He is also expected to hold talks with John Swinney, leader of the Scottish National Party. Both von der Leyen and Trump confirmed that a meeting is scheduled for Sunday. Upon his arrival, Trump issued strong warnings to Europe regarding migration and energy infrastructure, criticizing wind turbines for "destroying beautiful landscapes" and causing bird deaths.

He also urged European countries to toughen their immigration policies, claiming the situation threatens to unravel Europe. The visit has sparked strong public backlash. Protests with banners rejecting his presence were held in Edinburgh and Turnberry, and a “resistance festival” is planned in Aberdeen to express public dissatisfaction. Security operations have intensified: over 5,000 police officers have been deployed, and no-fly zones have been established around his properties.

Although the trip is officially designated as a “working mission,” Trump is expected to spend significant time at his golf courses and promoting his family business. Critics claim the event will cost U.S. taxpayers approximately $10 million, raising concerns about the blending of public duties with private interests. Trump also stated he is “50% confident” that his administration will secure a trade deal with the EU before August 1.

Compared to other countries, the forecast is for tariffs to be lowered to 15% on several products, but disagreements remain on more than 20 key issues. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has already signed a deal with the U.S. that includes a 10% tariff on exports of cars and industrial instruments.
