Trump emphasized the need to reach an agreement without setting a specific deadline, stating that the real deadline is the end of the war itself. He also indicated that security arrangements would be part of the overall framework.

Ahead of the negotiations, both presidents expressed optimism. Zelensky said that genuine peace should be achievable if there is real political will, while Trump assured that security guarantees are being considered and that European countries are deeply involved in the process. Their statements highlighted a coordinated effort between Washington, Kyiv, and European allies.

Trump also disclosed that he held a prior phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing the conversation as positive and productive, without providing further details. The Kremlin later confirmed the call, and additional contacts are expected following the meeting with Zelensky. A broader conference call with European leaders is also anticipated to assess next steps and strengthen a unified diplomatic stance.
