During an appearance in the Oval Office on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump drew attention for an unusual reason: his voice sounded noticeably lower and raspier than usual.

Reporters immediately speculated about a possible cold or vocal strain, but Trump dismissed any health concerns. Instead, he explained that the hoarseness came from a heated exchange moments earlier with representatives of a foreign country regarding a sensitive international trade agreement.

According to Trump, the meeting quickly grew tense when the foreign delegation rejected several adjustments the White House was attempting to introduce into an already existing trade deal. “I was angry because they were doing stupid things related to trade and a particular country,” Trump said, visibly irritated.

The discussion escalated to the point where raised voices dominated the room, and the president acknowledged that he had “worn out” his voice during the confrontation. Even so,

Trump insisted he felt “great” and that the issue had been resolved, though he did not clarify which specific clauses were under dispute or which country was involved. Officials present described the exchange as one of the most intense trade discussions in recent weeks within Washington’s schedule.

For Trump, however, the temporary loss of voice was simply “part of the job” and, in his view, a sign of his determination to defend U.S. economic interests during particularly delicate negotiations.
