Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Moscow have thrown the city’s major airports into chaos since late Monday night, resulting in mass delays, flight cancellations, and stranded passengers across the Russian capital. Due to the aerial threat, multiple flights were delayed for hours or canceled altogether. Thousands of travelers were left stranded. Footage from Sheremetyevo, Moscow’s largest airport, showed long queues and passengers sleeping on their luggage or directly on the floor.
Waiting times reportedly reached up to twelve hours. In one viral video, a frustrated passenger can be heard loudly complaining to an Aeroflot employee about the situation (see video below). All Moscow Airports Affected Amid Heightened Drone Threats Russia’s aviation authority imposed temporary flight restrictions during the night at all major airports in Moscow, including Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky. In light of the ongoing drone attacks, a traditional arms fair scheduled for August in Moscow has already been canceled.
Earlier in May, just before the annual Victory Day parade commemorating the end of World War II 80 years ago, air traffic over Moscow had to be restricted due to similar drone incidents. At that time, Russian sources reported that nearly 60,000 passengers were affected by delays, diversions, and cancellations. 117 Ukrainian Drones Reportedly Repelled In Russia’s Far East, thousands of people were unable to travel westward toward the European part of the country due to widespread flight disruptions.
Special trains were deployed to transport passengers from Saint Petersburg to Moscow. According to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, air defense systems intercepted 117 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 30 of them reportedly downed over the Moscow region.
Train Station Targeted in Rostov Region Drone strikes were also reported in the Rostov region, which borders Ukraine. The train station in the city of Kamenolomni was severely damaged and set ablaze. Images of the strike were widely circulated on pro-Ukrainian Telegram channels. According to reports, the station is part of a key logistical network used for Russian military operations against Ukraine.
